How to Build a Custom Sidebar Sitemap on Blogger

Ditch the Archive: Building a Functional Sitemap

Most Blogger templates come with a "Blog Archive" gadget. It lists your posts by month and year—a format that is useless for SEO and frustrating for readers. Who goes looking for a "July 2024" post?

In the Blogger Foundry, we replace the clutter with a Siloed Sitemap. This keeps your best content visible and helps Google understand your site's hierarchy.

The Architect's Blueprint

To build your custom sitemap, we use an HTML/JavaScript Gadget in your sidebar. This allows for total control over which posts you highlight.

1. Create the Gadget: Go to Layout > Add a Gadget > HTML/JavaScript.

2. Structure by Silo: Group your links under your main labels like Technical SEO or Blogger Hacks.

3. Use Clean HTML: Use a simple unordered list (<ul>) to keep the code lightweight and fast.

Why This Wins

Every time you add a link to your sidebar, you are telling Google: "This page is important." By linking to your core posts from every single page on your blog, you increase their authority and make it easier for them to rank on Page 1.

Stop hiding your best work in a calendar. Put your blueprints on the wall where everyone can see them.
